The Birdhouse is perched at the top of the garden behind Shell Cottage in the quiet hamlet of Culduie in Applecross.
Originally an old cow byre, The Birdhouse was lovingly restored and refurbished in 2019 to an exceptional standard, with king size bed, beautiful shower room, wood burning stove and an abundance of unique creative charm.
This wonderful bothy is brimming with creativity and craftsmanship. Enjoying west-facing views over the Cuillin Mountains of Skye and the Inner Sound coastline. The Birdhouse is light and airy with a special feel. The natural wood and stone, the warming log burner and the overarching canopy of rowan branches over the head of the bed create a cosy, fairy-tale nest at any time of year.
The Birdhouse interiors merge contemporary Scottish with creative magic, painted in calming Farrow and Ball colours. Beautiful tweeds, lovely linens and sumptuous cushions give an air of understated luxury.
Attention to detail with skillful carpentry and a quirky bird theme runs throughout the bothy.
Shower room – equipped with luxury linens, fluffy towels and gorgeous Highland Soap Company organic hand and body products.
Living room/kitchen area – with flat screen smart TV, free Wi-Fi, mini dishwasher, fridge, mini oven with grill and 2 ring hob, and store cupboard basics. Inside the front door is a compact drying cupboard for those wetter days.
Bedroom – A hanging wardrobe, hairdryer, washing machine and cleaning cupboard are tucked away in the bedroom behind the old corrugated iron doors. The 5′ king size bed is made with fine cotton linens, feather and down duvet, tartan blanket and stunning cushions.
The bothy is heated to a toasty temperature with the wood burning stove and efficient heating system throughout. Cosy winter nights beckon. For those sunnier moments the well-positioned bench in front of the Birdhouse invites you to admire the views afar with a glass of wine or watch the birds in the garden. There is a separate barbecue area with seating for eating al fresco.
