Arriving by plane

The nearest airport is Inverness International Airport about 2 hrs 15 mins away We recommend hiring a car from the airport (almost all car hire firms are represented at the airport). Most of the journey is on very good roads, some of them single carriageway in places.

You can also hire a helicopter from Inverness Airport to Applecross, with permission.

Bus

The bus which comes to Applecross is operated by Lochcarron Garage. It operates a service from Inverness bus station to Applecross, twice a week on a Wednesday and Saturday (this is subject to change so please contact the garage to check). Check for further information on 01520 722 205. This bus service can get busy so it is advisable to book early.

Local Trains

There is no train station in Applecross, the closest station is Strathcarron. This is on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line. Strathcarron train station is 22 miles from Applecross. The train services are operated by Scotrail. www.scotrail.co.uk.

By car

There are only two roads leading into Applecross. The fastest is via Lochcarron, over the Bealach na Ba pass and the other is via Torridon and Shieldaig and traces the coast, reaching Applecross from the North.

Depending upon the weather, you might want to come into Applecross over the Bealach, and leave via the coast road – or vice versa; both drives have spectacular scenery.

The Bealach na Bà, via Lochcarron is the fastest and most commonly used road. Throughout the winter it is often closed due to snow and it is not suitable for large vehicles or nervous drivers.
