Annat with Torridon

Annat is a very small village with just a handful of houses located in it. However, it does have a superb restaurant at the hotel and a bar which serves good pub food and has the occasional live music act.

Just over a mile away, at Torridon, and with the opportunity to walk there across the beach lands, there is a very good local shop and tea room serving hot food and cakes throughout the day. Torridon itself, has a local community centre with live music acts, reels, Pilates and has a great and busy restaurant.

There are three great mountain ranges to the north of the Loch, Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe. Each contains two Munros (peaks over 3000 feet) …three more Munros lie to the South within the Coulin forest!

Walking and hiking through the area you can find red deer, mountain hare, ptarmigan, ravens or even a golden eagle. Around the lochs you are likely to see otters, seals or even porpoises and dolphins.

Slightly further afield, there is a good bar and restaurant at Sheildaig (about 6 miles away) and this often has local bands playing at the weekend. Here there is also another local shop.

Around and about

The area is an excellent base for those who would like to explore further afield and touring is a popular activity. This will inevitably take you south to Applecross, Lochcarron, Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh, Dornie, and Glenelg.

To the north lies Gairloch, Inverewe, Aultbea, Dundonnell and Ullapool. There are castles, ancient brochs, gardens, beaches, and local crafts to sample along the way.

Boat trips

There are a number of local operators offering boat trips. These are largely based in Gairloch, a one hour drive to the north.

Golf

Locally there are 9-hole golf courses at Gairloch and at Lochcarron. Further afield is an 18-hole course at Strathpeffer and a 9-hole course at Ullapool.
